Teeth whitening

Some people tend to have darker shades of teeth than others. Stains appear on the outer surface of our teeth and are usually caused by diet and lifestyle, such as red wine, coffee, tea and tobacco.

Dental Cleaning or Scaling and Polishing

To preserve your teeth, it is recommended to get professional teeth cleaning every 6 month. Our dental clinics in Thailand perform the scaling and polishing with technologically advanced equipment. A high frequency ultrasonic scaler is used to clean each tooth to their maximum best. This restores teeth properly, as the dentist is able to get below the gum line. The next step in the cleaning process is to gently polish each tooth to ensure that the scaling has not damaged the enamel.

Teeth Fillings

Fillings are a daily procedure of our dentists and there are many options as to which materials to use and how best to protect your teeth.

The Filling Procedure
Normally the dentist will notice any decay on a visual inspection during a regular check up. To make sure you don’t have any cavities he may also recommend an x-ray.
When tooth decay has been identified, they will clean the cavity and remove any dead or decayed elements using drills or other techniques such as air abrasion.
The tooth will be contained, and moisture from the area removed so the filling can stick properly. An adhesive is placed on the affected tooth so the filling will stick and stay in place, and then, a composite filling is applied.  Sometimes a light source will be used to properly bond the agents together and the process is complete.

Types of fillings
Filling material was made from an amalgam of metals including silver, tin, zinc, mercury and copper. The disadvantages of amalgam fillings do not always match the color of your tooth. One of the most popular types of filling currently used is composite fillings, created from a mixture of plastic and tiny glass particles. This type of filling also has a relatively long life. Composite fillings also have the advantage of matching your tooth natural color.

Dark Fillings
Amalgam fillings which are silver in color darkening over time so that they are noticeable and generally used for only the molar teeth.

White Fillings
White composite fillings are more popular due to their high aesthetic value, blend in to the natural colour of your teeth and are highly efficient for filling cavities.
X-rays will be taken to ensure that having a white composite filling is the right choice for you. The tooth will be cleaned and the cavity cleared of all dead or decaying matter.  This will either occur through drilling or through air abrasion. A bright light is often used to harden the material once the cavity has been filled.

Porcelain Fillings
Porcelain and ceramics can be used either alone or as a facing for material fillings. The advantage is the high aesthetic quality. A porcelain material can last up to 30 years and a can strengthen the tooth.
The procedure is more time consuming, as the dentist will prepare the enamel for the filling by first removing decay using a drill or air abrasion. Then the tooth colour will be matched with the colour of the porcelain and the area will be measured. A digital scanning technique called CADCAM is used, so the porcelain filling can be properly fitted.  A temporary filling will be fitted so your cleaned cavity doesn’t cause you any pain. The porcelain is fabricated to the shape of your tooth and on your second visit it can be bonded to your tooth.

Gold Fillings
Gold fillings are usually only 75% gold. The other 25% being composed of a mixture of copper, silver, platinum, palladium and zinc. The fitting procedure is similar to amalgam fillings and most other filling materials.  Gold is an expensive material, and can cost up to 10 times as much as an amalgam filling.

Porcelain Veneers

Fillings are a daily procedure of our dentists and there are many options as to which materials to use and how best to protect your teeth.

Are very thin shells created from porcelain which are bonded to the front of your teeth in order to improve the aesthetics of your teeth. Veneers are commonly used to treat chipped or damaged teeth; teeth which are worn down, and stained or discolored teeth. Veneers can also be used to help with slightly crooked teeth, by giving them a much straighter appearance and closing up any obvious gaps. The benefits are increased self esteem, natural cosmetic enhancement, minimal tooth preparation and are permanent & durable.

Fitting Procedure of Dental Veneers
The procedure will take at least 2 – 3 appointments.
At your first visits you will have a mold taken of your teeth which will be used to design your new veneer. In the meantime it is common to be fitted with temporary veneers until you are ready to have the custom made ones fitted.

Your second appointment is normally for fitting the veneers. Any final checks will be made to ensure that no further alterations are required. During the fitting procedure your teeth will be thoroughly cleaned and the fronts of your teeth will be coated in a special gel which will increase the effectiveness of the bonding. Specialized dental cement will be used to secure your veneers in place and a high-tech bonding light will activate the process. This usually takes only a few minutes then any excess cement will be trimmed off and the veneer polished.

Root Canal Treatment or Endodontic

A root canal is a very common treatment performed by specialists called endodontic. Your teeth have a core of blood vessels and nerves at their centre. This living tissue is called the pulp and is in a space called the root canal. The number of root canals in each tooth varies depending on how far back it is in your mouth. Front teeth often have one root canal, while back teeth may have three or more. The pulp tissue does contain nerve fibers it is also composed of arteries, veins, lymph vessels and connective tissue. The pulp can become diseased or injured and thus is unable to repair itself. The pulp then dies and endodontic treatment is required.

This treatment removes blood vessels and nerves from a tooth which are infected. It may also be required to remove a live nerve from a tooth. A root canal infection can be caused by different things including decay, injury and gum disease.

Sometimes a live tooth may have insufficient tooth substance to retain a crown so the tooth may have to have root canal treatment and be restored with a post-retained crown.

Procedure for Root Canal Treatment
The procedure is usually under local anesthetics. The dentist will begin by cleaning the thorough tooth.  When the pulp chamber becomes exposed, any infected tissue in the pulp chamber will then be removed and any remaining nerve tissue will be removed from the root canals. Once this is completed, your root canal is widened so that it is ready for filling. Before filling, your tooth will be disinfected and a material called gutta-percha will be pushed into the pulp to ensure a tight fit. A temporary filling is usually applied before being swapped for a permanent crown or filling at a follow up visit.

Dental Implants

Implants are artificial tooth root replacements which are used to provide support to one or more dental restorations. Different to bridges which are anchored by the surrounding teeth, implants are anchored by a special designed socket implanted into your jaw bone. Dental implants can be used to hold an individual tooth. One implant is also able to support a number of teeth. If you are undergoing a full mouth reconstruction then several implants may be required in your upper and lower jaws. The implanting process creates a much sturdier anchor for the restoration than bridges or dentures enabling them to have a much longer life.

Types of dental Implants
The most common material is sophisticated titanium and the most common shape looks like a screw cylinder.
There are many types of dental implants available, such as BioHorizons®, NobelReplace® Taper and Groovy, Straumann ITI, and many more.

Procedure for fitting Conventional Implants
You may need up to 5 appointments. On your first appointment a number of x-ray pictures will be taken to enable your dentist to assess the strength of the bone in the target area. In some cases a CT scan may also be required. A cut will be made in your gum which will then be lifted to expose the desired implant location. A hole will be drilled in your jawbone and the implant will be carefully secured into it. The gum is then replaced and stitched. After your implant is fully integrated a permanent restoration is attached. Your dentist will usually place a temporary crown. Once the gum has healed again in a few weeks, the temporary crown is removed and a permanent restoration is fixed to the implant.
